Hamilton House Painting / FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers about house painting in Hamilton, from pricing and timing to villas and paint.

Cost & quotes

How much does it cost to paint a house in Hamilton?

Every property is different. Pricing depends on the size of your home, the condition of the surfaces, the preparation needed, access and the paint system. Arron gives free quotes, with the price and agreed scope set out in writing.

What affects the cost of a painting job?

The main factors are the size of the area, how much preparation and repair the surfaces need, access to high or awkward areas, the number of coats and the products chosen. Older homes with failing paint or lead-based coatings usually need more preparation.

Are quotes free?

Yes. Send your details through the quote form or call Arron on 021 555 339. He will discuss the job and arrange an assessment for a free written quote.

What should a painting quote include?

A good quote sets out the price and the agreed scope: which surfaces are included, the preparation and repairs, and the products and system. Arron confirms these in your written quote.

Timing & weather

When is the best time to paint a house exterior in Hamilton?

Exterior work is usually best planned for warmer, drier weather. Arron paints year-round when weather and surface conditions allow, so it is worth getting in touch early to plan your job.

What happens if it rains during my job?

Exterior paint needs dry surfaces and suitable conditions. If the weather turns, work is planned around it, and Arron keeps you updated on timing.

How long will my job take?

Timing depends on the size of the job, how many painters are on site and the weather. Arron gives you an estimated timeframe after seeing the property and keeps you updated.

Preparation & process

How should I prepare my home before painting starts?

Move smaller items and valuables where you can, and talk to Arron about larger furniture beforehand. Floors and furniture are covered and protected before preparation starts.

What preparation is done before painting?

Depending on the job, preparation can include cleaning, removing failing paint, sanding, filling, plaster repairs and priming.

Will cracks and holes be repaired first?

Yes. Hamilton House Painting also offers plastering and GIB stopping, including crack repairs, Level 4 and Level 5 stopping and skim coating, so surfaces are smooth before painting.

Does old or peeling paint need to be removed?

Failing paint needs to be removed so the new system can bond. A sound but faded exterior may suit a semi restoration, while flaking paint usually needs a full restoration.

How many coats will be applied?

It depends on the surface and the system. Arron confirms the repairs, products and number of coats in your written quote.

Can you deal with lead paint on an older villa?

Yes. Arron assesses the coatings, discusses testing where lead is suspected and plans controlled preparation, debris containment and careful cleaning before the scope and quote are confirmed.

Paint & finishes

Are low-VOC paints available?

Yes, low-VOC options are available for interiors.

Which sheen should I choose?

Arron can help you pick sheen levels for walls, ceilings, doors and trims, based on the surface and how the room is used.

What paint is best for ceilings near an HRV system?

Arron likes a matt wash and wear for ceilings around an HRV system, as it can be wiped clean.

Warranty & insurance

Is there a warranty?

Every job comes with a 5-year workmanship warranty.

Are you insured?

Yes. Hamilton House Painting carries public liability insurance.
